“Doing the right thing” has always been part of our culture, and we hold ourselves to the highest standard. At Zachry, responsible business practices encompass all of the procedures and guidelines necessary to support our vision to be a “principle-based enterprise.” These include the ethics, communication, leadership, quality and safety practices and business decisions that promote a genuine citizenship culture for all of Zachry. Our objectives are:
- Provide a clear and direct expectation of a high standard of practices and ethics and an equal expectation from those we do business with, keeping in mind the value of Zachry’s reputation.
- Promote transparency in our methods, reasoning and actions, both internal and external to the company.
- Institutionalize the investment in safety in the workplace.
A “signature” program of this dimension of our citizenship strategy is our Employee Expectation Card. The Employee Expectation Card process demonstrates each supervisor’s formal and personal commitment to safety. It confirms each supervisor is accountable to encourage safe work practices, just as each employee is accountable for working safely. Everyone on the job site is responsible and accountable for safety, and the Employee Expectation Card formally communicates this core belief. If an employee believes he or she is ever in an unsafe situation or the situation is causing an at-risk behavior, the employee has the responsibility to stop work, review the Safety Task Assessment (STA) with his or her supervisor and discuss possible solutions. Each supervisor at the project reviews the Employee Expectation Card with each employee that falls under their supervision.
