Sustainability encompasses all of our activities that improve the environmental footprint and performance both at Zachry facilities and those of our customers. In addition to our own internal programs of energy conservation, materials usage and recycling, our sustainability strategy capitalizes on using our professional knowledge and skills to help others improve environmental stewardship. This is accomplished through the following objectives:
- Purposefully use our expertise in power generation to bring fact-based knowledge and ingenuity to sustainable energy markets.
- Implement a plan to limit the environmental impact created while executing our work by reducing emissions and the amount of natural resources used in our activities.
- Actively seek opportunities to communicate and proactively impact our industrial projects utilizing our knowledge base in the area of sustainable energy.
A “signature” program of our sustainability strategy is our role in developing the renewable energy market. In early 2009 we developed an Enterprise 10-year strategic plan that identified development of the renewables market as a priority. Since that time, we have invested significant time and money to develop economically feasible projects and ultimately were awarded EPC contracts for a large biomass project in Georgia and a large solar project in Arizona. This is an example of where we were able to integrate our commitment to energy sustainability with our business interests.
