About Zachry

Overview

What is now Zachry began as the H.B. Zachry Company nearly 85 years ago with dirt-moving mules, rented equipment and a bridge project in Laredo, Texas. Founded by Texas A&M University graduate, Henry Bartell “Pat” Zachry, our company is still family-owned and privately held. Our success is based on the work ethic and integrity of our dedicated employees.

From the vision of one Texas civil engineer, our San Antonio-based organization has grown to include nearly 20,000 employees and 40 million workhours per year. Our projects in the power, cement, refining and pulp and paper industries span from California to the Carolinas; but we do more than just build. We are a true EPC provider, giving our customers the unique experience of engineering, construction and maintenance all in one company. Our Industrial Services Group renews the structures we’ve built so that even after the job is done, Zachry continues to exceed customer expectations.

Zachry History

The original H. B. Zachry Company, was founded in 1924 by newly graduated Texas A&M University civil engineer Henry Bartell “Pat” Zachry. The 22-year-old entrepreneur soon landed his first project—a $40,000 bridge construction job in Laredo for the Texas Highway Department. The job was completed with dirt-moving mules and dedicated workers, starting a long tradition of finishing every job with integrity.

We hold safety as our first and most important value. Our commitment to accept no compromise for our employees’ and customers’ safety remains our top priority. Employees hold various training sessions and daily meetings to assess current safety situations and ongoing safety procedures. These routines account for our low-incident safety records year after year; however we continue to seek new ways to eliminate safety concerns in our places of work. Our craft workers are an integral part of our safety process and are encouraged to lead with innovation in achieving safety goals.
