Zachry Volunteer Council (ZVC) invite you to help

Zachry Volunteer Council (ZVC) cordially invite you to express your interest in learning more about the community service projects that support non profits and educational institutions in Bexar County. Each fall organizations apply, and members of the ZVC nominate programs, to be considered by the council for execution the following year.

Once the list has been narrowed down and voted on, the Corporate Contributions Committee signs off. Members of the ZVC volunteer to serve as lead coordinator and coordinators for each project. All Corporate Officers serve as executive sponsors for at least one project.

In 2009 some involvement was on going, like tutoring, through San Antonio Youth Literacy at Zachry Volunteer Council's adopted school, Stonewall Flanders Elementary. The Quilting Club convenes on a regular basis to design and stitch quilts and lap blankets that are donated to various non profit agencies for their children and seniors. This year the ZVC and every department at the Home Office is continuing to deliver cookies and other nutritional items to the Warrior and Family Support Center at Brooke Army Medical Center.

One time projects include the school supply drive, gardening and trail work at the Mitchell Lake Audubon Center, staffing the phones, posting bids and staging merchandise for public television’s annual auction and fitting under privileged children for shoes at the Salvation Army Shoe in.

Zachry Volunteer Council volunteers will paint over graffiti at the City of San Antonio sponsored Wipe Out event, organize and sponsor a field day for 75 children and adults residing at Mission Road and, collect gifts and toys for needy children through the San Antonio Police Department’s Blue Santa.

2010 promises to be exciting as well. In addition to posting these projects on ZHI.com, you can receive an individual email by notifying This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. We hope that you respond to this outreach, provide wisdom and counseling, and allow us to enjoy your company this fall and in 2010.
