Controls/Electrical Component Obsolescence and Modernization Experience

With the aging of generation facilities and the limitations on personnel resources, certain select engineering disciplines, such as Instrumentation and Controls (I&C), Mechanical, and Electrical design engineering, have become resources used by generation specialists to remain abreast of advances in equipment design, replacement methods, and system operation.

Zachry effectively responds to this need by providing a design engineering group with three decades of I&C, Electrical, and Mechanical design application and power plant experience. Our participation in industry standards committees, combined with our working familiarity with Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and the Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society (ISA) standards, has allowed us to remain current with control design criteria and requirements. Our participation in the Nuclear Utility Obsolescence Group (NUOG), including Team Leadership for Radiation Monitoring Obsolescence, allows us to remain abreast of the many critical part replacement and obsolescence solutions available for the generation industry.

Our engineering and design staff has extensive experience in design engineering of system upgrades in response to critical part replacement and obsolescence issues. Tasks have included evaluation of existing components and systems, specification of new components, direct interfacing with original manufacturers and third party providers, Software Quality Assurance, procedure and licensing revisions, programmatic evaluations, integration of new components and systems with existing systems and evaluation of operational requirements. Our working history with numerous utilities and vendors has allowed Zachry to establish extensive experience with both legacy I&C, Electrical, and Electro-Mechanical systems and components and to understand the many state-of-the-art solutions available to our clients.
